This is how it works in the Mechanical Department of Iv-Industrie

Around six months ago, Carl Noya stepped over to Iv-Industrie, where he manages ten colleagues daily as Technical Head of the Mechanical Department. No two days are consistently the same, and neither is his role. "The willingness of our team to tackle technically complex issues makes me feel very proud."

About his role, the sector and the ambitious department
Carl's job is multifaceted. Besides his responsibilities as Head of Department, he also carries out tasks in managing his own projects, in which monitoring quality, hours and progress are the most critical aspects. As Head of Department, Carl organises the work and is responsible for the deployment and availability of employees within the Mechanical Department.

Door is open

Although no two days are ever the same, Carl always begins his day in the same way: with coffee. "Because otherwise, I don't function well," he jokes. "Then I go through the schedules and process new information from projects and check the deployment and availability of people. I also like to keep my door open as much as possible. There is usually a colleague who needs the quality of a document checking or has a project-related question. There also has to be room for that."

He sees the Mechanical Department as an enthusiastic group of people. "I like the fact that I have to slow them down rather than enthuse them. That's not necessary. As a person, I am sensitive to the atmosphere and energy within a group, and that is excellent here. The team works hard, and there is an enormous willingness to tackle technically complex issues, which I'm very proud of."

In a relatively short time, Carl has worked on many projects, including Tata Steel, Pallas and Gate Terminal, where he was involved as a project leader. Currently, a project for a client on the Maasvlakte is the longest-running project Carl has worked on since becoming Head of Department. Iv-Industrie is creating an alternative route for high-voltage cables to increase safety and access to cable pits. The project is multifaceted: from compiling an inventory of the pits to designing new supports and covers, from drawing up the work specifications for the contractors to producing a cost estimate.

Being challenged

That is why the Mechanical Department is and must be versatile. Carl: "The nice thing about my job and role is that I can focus on motivating the team. Keeping an eye on the talent and ensuring everyone is sufficiently challenged and happy with what they are doing. The good thing about Iv is that you are given the space you need to grow and develop your career. I help the team with this."

A job in the Mechanical Department means versatility, room for personal development and being challenged in your work. "All our mechanical engineers work on at least two projects simultaneously, which should give you a good idea of how much is going on. That's what makes the work so varied."
