Although no two days are ever the same, Carl always begins his day in the same way: with coffee. "Because otherwise, I don't function well," he jokes. "Then I go through the schedules and process new information from projects and check the deployment and availability of people. I also like to keep my door open as much as possible. There is usually a colleague who needs the quality of a document checking or has a project-related question. There also has to be room for that."
He sees the Mechanical Department as an enthusiastic group of people. "I like the fact that I have to slow them down rather than enthuse them. That's not necessary. As a person, I am sensitive to the atmosphere and energy within a group, and that is excellent here. The team works hard, and there is an enormous willingness to tackle technically complex issues, which I'm very proud of."
In a relatively short time, Carl has worked on many projects, including Tata Steel, Pallas and Gate Terminal, where he was involved as a project leader. Currently, a project for a client on the Maasvlakte is the longest-running project Carl has worked on since becoming Head of Department. Iv-Industrie is creating an alternative route for high-voltage cables to increase safety and access to cable pits. The project is multifaceted: from compiling an inventory of the pits to designing new supports and covers, from drawing up the work specifications for the contractors to producing a cost estimate.
