Water Treatment in Oman

Cleansing water in Oman with desert bacteria

In the desert of Oman, 400 hectares of reed beds and 400 hectares of evaporation basins are used to clean water which is contaminated by oil. When extracting oil, water is pumped out as a by-product. However, this salt water contains oil residues and cannot simply be discharged. Pumping the water back to great depths takes a lot of energy. Iv-Water made a technical design for a concept of Shell, in which the water is cleansed by bacteria that is present between the roots of the reed plants.
