Temporary Berths on Maasvlakte 2

Berths powered by solar energy

The volume of goods shipped via Rotterdam is continuing to increase and the market wants more facilities enabling ship-to-ship transhipment of bulk goods. The Port of Rotterdam Authority wanted to build two temporary berths on Maasvlakte 2 to attract transhipment that currently occurs at sea. The berths are designed in a way that also allows large vessels to dock. In the middle of the water there is no electricity supply, so Iv-Infra designed power units that use solar energy. For the berths a consortium called MariTeam (consisting of Iv-Infra, SBE, B.V. Ingenieursbureau M.U.C. and MH Poly) prepared the design & construct contract, the preliminary design and the tender specifications.
