Wind energy from the North Sea to land
The DolWin Alpha Platform is located about 60 kilometres off the German coast in the North Sea. An offshore 800 MW HVDC Converter Platform that converts alternating current to direct current to connect offshore wind farms. DolWin Alpha receives electrical energy from nearby wind turbine collection stations via 155kV 3-phase alternating current cables. This alternating current is converted at the HVDC station to 320 kV direct current so that it can be transported to the onshore converter station in Dörpen. Iv-Offshore & Energy was responsible for the design of the platform and the associated facilities on behalf of the main contractors, Siemens and Heerema Fabrication Group.
