Halfweg Platform Analysis

Security research of a platform using a drone

How do you determine the safety of a platform following a collision with a tanker? The Halfweg gas platform (GBS) was set to be removed, but instead, was hit by a tanker. The platform had therefore suffered great damage. Iv-Consult carried out a FEM Boat impact analysis based on damage and distortions photographed and scanned by a drone. The goal was to demonstrate the stability of the platform and identify possible obstacles for the removal. The FEM analysis showed that the structural safety and stability of the platform was not at stake. The platform was released for further inspection.
