Iv-Infra selected as design partner in megaproject SAA A9 Iv-Infra Bascule bridge Civil Engineering Works

Design partner for the ‘East and West Package’

The A9 Badhoevedorp-Holendrecht project can rightfully be called a megaproject. The Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat) awarded the project to the VEENIX consortium consisting of Macquarie Capital, Siemens, Count & Cooper and FCC Construcción. VEENIX is responsible for the design work, construction and the pre-financing (DBFM) of the project. Iv-Infra is a selected design partner for the ‘East and West Package’ and will be commissioned by FCC Construcción to create the preliminary design and final design for the new Schiphol Bridge (movable bridge), a number of viaducts and a new underpass.

Complex engineering work

One of the most challenging and complex parts of the project and the scope of Iv-Infra concerns the new Schiphol Bridge. The existing Schiphol Bridge will be reused and widened for the civil components. This is how the bascule chamber will be adapted and widened. The bridge will receive new electrotechnical and mechanical installations, a new control tower and two new bridge decks.

Very excited about this mega job

David van Goolen, Project Manager at Iv-Infra: “This project is challenging on all fronts. And since we like challenges and technical complexity at Iv, we are very excited about being involved in this mega job. The challenges lie not only on a technical level but also in design planning, collaborating with other design partners under FCC and the conditions under which Iv-Infra will be contracted. There is, therefore, a strong focus on project management. This is also the first time that Iv-Infra has appointed a steering committee to oversee the project.”
