How the first week of my graduation internship at Iv-Consult went Iv-Consult Challenged Graduation Steel

By Daphne de Wit, recently graduated at Iv-Consult with a 10!

In February 2018, I began my graduation project at Iv-Consult. I am following an Engineering, Design and Innovation course and at Iv-Consult, I am developing a method which will make the fatigue analysis of steel constructions more robust and will speed up the turnaround time of the analysis. For the fatigue analyses, Iv-Consult uses the FEM analysis program ANSYS (Workbench). It is my aim to accelerate and improve the fatigue analysis process, and of course, with a 100% quality guarantee. Fatigue is a complicated (but also very interesting) subject and many aspects of the analysis could be improved.

I was very impressed with the knowledge

On the first day that I walked into Iv-Consult for my internship, I was received with enthusiasm. All practical matters were arranged, and everything was ready. I was able to start immediately. The first week always takes a while to settle into a company, taste the atmosphere and see what is really expected of you. I was very impressed with the knowledge in the department and the openness with which I was received. Especially in the first week, you have a lot of questions. It’s great that there is always the opportunity to reach out to one of my supervisors or a colleague, this made it easy for me to obtain immediate answers to my questions. The atmosphere is very open and friendly and in my opinion; a good social and professional balance. Everyone is willing to help each other as well as a graduate like me.

Supervised by specialists who know the profession inside out

Guidance is also very important for the student. During my internship, I am supervised by the Sector Manager and the Principal Engineer. Both are men who know the profession inside out. The combination of knowledge of these two supervisors ensures that all aspects that I may need help with are covered.
My impression of Iv-Consult is very positive, both with regards to the working atmosphere and the professionalism. The enthusiastic way in which I am guided makes this a fun and very educational graduation internship for me.
