Steel movable deck Prinses Amalia bridge jacked into position Iv-Infra Bascule bridge Engineering Placement

A total weight of 272 tonnes

The new Princess Amalia Bridge on the N246 at Westknollendam (municipality of Zaanstad) offers enough surface capacity for two traffic lanes and a 3-metre wide cycle lane. After the summer, this bridge will be used as a replacement for the old Beatrix Bridge. The reason why the name has been changed is that there is another Beatrix Bridge (also in the municipality of Zaanstad) which is only a few kilometres away.

During the night of 12 to 13 April, the steel movable deck of the brand-new Princess Amalia Bridge was jacked into position on the N246 from the water. The placement of the movable deck, including the counterweight comprised a total weight of 272 tonnes during the jacking operation. The ballast was placed in the counterweight on Saturday and was welded shut on Sunday. The operating mechanisms were then connected to the movable deck. During the night of Sunday to Monday, the movable deck was finally opened and secured to the locking device to resume shipping. In the coming period, the roof of the bascule chamber will be installed, equipment placed, and the bridge further completed. Iv-Infra took care of, among other things, the final design of the steel structure, the mechanical equipment, the guidance structure and waiting areas. In addition, Iv-Infra was responsible for the final design and the implementation design of the concrete ramps, the bascule chamber and the foundations.
