How Iv-Infra collaborated on an access road for Rotterdam Food Hub

Iv-Infra has done a lot of work in the past year to ensure the realisation of an access road for the Rotterdam Food Hub near the Caland Canal. This 60-hectare industrial site is specially designed to facilitate companies from the 'agri-food' sector optimally.

Crucial delivery date

The pressing timeline presented an enormous amount of pressure. In particular, the tendering and implementation procedures would ensure that the road would not be finished by the end of 2020. This date was crucial due to agreements made with customers from within the internal organisation, adjacent businesses, and the surrounding area. From July 2020, the first company began with the development of the site, which is also known as the 'Kop van de Beer' (Head of the Bear). Innocent is developing a factory there for producing juices.

A tremendous team performance

Leon Oomen, Infrastructure Project Manager at Iv-Infra, talks about the team's performance in meeting the delivery date: "To make use of time smartly and efficiently, a collaboration was formed with the contractor. This collaboration was laid down in a Construction Team Agreement. The Port of Rotterdam Authority, together with (and on the advice of) Iv-Infra, chose to embark upon this process. Collaborating in the form of a Construction Team enabled us to involve the contractor's expertise at an early stage of the process and minimise implementation risks. In the end, we were able to save almost three months' worth of time with a design. The Construction Team began developing the design at the end of April, which could be carried out immediately as part of a draft specification. The contractor started the work directly after the construction trade holiday ended."

The road was ready for use on 18 December 2020. The tremendous team performance, which involved many hands from Iv-Infra, ensured that the road was delivered within the set term and desired quality.
